Bold Brights Dots

I was on Beate's blog, Fresh and Fun, this morning and she had a new inspiration challenge posted that was a card made up of different colored dots. It made me think birthday for some reason and bright colors. I never use the Bold Brights color family from Stampin' Up!, so these cards are very different for me.

The one on the left was made using punched out circles of Bold Brights cardstock and the one on the right used Bold Brights ink and a flower stamp from the hostess set, Make it Count. They are both more geared for kids. We have a birthday party this weekend that we're going to, so I may use one of these or who knows, I may make another one.

The neat part about this challenge was that it made me try something new. That's what challenges are all about right, challenging ourselves to try. I hope you'll give something new a try today too. Have a great day, happy stamping! :)

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Today is my husband's birthday, so my kids and I made him a couple birthday cards. Happy Birthday Daddy!



This is the card I made using a layout, which I CASEd from my SBS sister Lynn, of LW Designs. Check out her blog, she makes gorgeous things! I don't have a lot of manly stamps, so I went with my For Father set. Perfect for daddy!




These are the cards the kids made. I helped with the assembly of course but they chose the stamps and did the coloring. My son, who's four, made the rocket ship card. This is probably one of the best coloring jobs he's ever done. He really took his time. My daughter, who's two, made the purple card. She loves to use her crayons. My little stampers in the making! :)

Color Challenge

Happy Monday!

So, we're having a rainy day here, the perfect kind of day for stamping!

Recently, my SBS3 sister Cindy, asked me to help with samples for her monthly blog challenge. She posts a new challenge on the last Tuesday of each month and this month's challenge is to use a color that you rarely or even never use.

I'm posting my card early so that Cindy can have the link to it. Cindy's challenge will be posted in the morning tomorrow.

I chose Taken with Teal as my challenge color. I don't think I have ever used this color cardstock on a card and so I didn't want to make the entire card Teal, I only used it as an accent. I think it really pops against the Night of Navy and those felt flowers. I just might be tempted to use it again sometime.

Happy Friday!!

We've been having the best weather the last few days. The trees and plants are all starting to bloom, Spring is definitely here! So in honor of the recent burst of Spring, I thought I would make some cards with flowers.

This first card is very simple. I water colored the image on watercolor paper with markers, then cut the image out. The cardstock is Naturals Ivory. I tore the edge and sponged on some Brocade Blue ink and stamp the sentiment in that same color. The final touch was a piece of wide Artichoke Organdy ribbon and a piece of Ivory Organdy ribbon.

This second card is a bit more fancy. The base is Old Olive. I sponged the edges and added paper piercing around the entire card. The main image is stamped on Very Vanilla and layered on Rose Red. I used the spotlight technique on the image to add just a bit of color to one area. I added some brads and a photo corner to the top corner and a piece of Ivory Organdy ribbon around the bottom with a piece of Pewter Hodgepodge Hardware. The final accents are two 3D butterflies. The sentiment was stamped with Olive ink.

Beate's Inspiration Challenge #10

Happy Thursday!

Here's a card I made for this week's inspiration challenge on Beate's blog. The inspiration piece was a print you can purchase at Cold Water Creek. I've been wanting to try sponging with embossing and this challenge was perfect for this technique.

I used the color combination of Bashful Blue, Mellow Moss and Barely Banana, taken from the inspiration print. The stamps are from Heartfelt Thanks. I embossed the flowers with White EP and then sponged on the colors all around the flowers. The layers of cardstock have all been directly inked with the ink pad to create a background. I tied a piece of white organdy ribbon and hemp twine around the image piece for the final touches.

Weekly Challenge - Scrap Something

Happy Wednesday!

I've been making some scrap pages over the last couple of days, as you can see from the previous post. So I thought that scrapping would make for a good challenge this week. I'm not a huge scrapper myself, but I've been having fun doing it. Challenge yourself to scrap something!

This page was inspired by the frame project sample on page 121 of the Spring/Summer Collection Catalog. I just love this idea to keepsake a wedding photo.

I used some of the Spring Silhouettes DSP and then layered on some of the Cherished Memories rub-ons. I also added stamped images from Brocade Basics, such an elegant stamp set. I used taffeta ribbon and some pearls from the Pretties Kit to embellish the page. Now I just need to find a good wedding photo. My husband and I got married in Viva Las Vegas, so we don't have a ton of wedding pictures.

Blog Candy Scrap Pages

Hello Again,

Erin, on Scrap, Stamp, and Be Merry, is offering up some blog candy. It really looks like it's going to be a bundle of candy too! All you have to do is create a 6x6 scrap page with the theme of "baby girl" and send it to Erin. She is going to become an aunt twice over this summer and is looking for help to complete a scrap book. Take a look at the details on her blog.

I'm not a big scrapper myself, but I do like to create pages as gifts. So I went a little crazy and made 3 different ones to send to Erin. Erin is a great friend, I'm very happy to be able to help her out.

I used the color combination of River Rock, Blush Blossom, Groovy Guava, and Barely Banana, which were the colors Erin suggested, to complete these pages. I also broke out my Sherbet Ribbon Originals and sticky cut letters and some alphabet stamp sets that I haven't used in a while.

Even if you don't do a lot of scrapping, like me, you should give this a try. It's easy and quick, plus who knows, maybe you'll win something too! Thanks for looking, happy stamping and scrapping!! :)

Stamp Club Projects

Happy Tuesday,

Last night was my monthly stamp club and so I thought I would share the projects we made. We had a great time stamping, it's always more fun stamping with others. Thanks again to the ladies who attended. :)

We made this first card using Tart & Tangy and the Summer Picnic DSP. I just can't get enough of this set and everyone at club seemed to enjoy it as well. We also made a matching sour cream container filled with Skittles, but my husband has since opened the one I made. So you'll need to use your imagination! :)



For this next project we used the stamp set Unfrogettable to create a slider style card. This was fun to make and everyone chose to stamp something different on the front image and the slider. So we all had unique cards!


We did a single slider instead of the double and I think I like this better. It was easier and it seems to work better too. I'll be making more of these!








For the last projects, we created a card with a matching gift card holder using the stamps from Pun Fun. The card layout was taken from an old sketch challenge from Beate's blog, Fresh and Fun.


The gift card holder is super easy to make. Here are the details for that...

supplies:
One piece of cardstock 4 1/4" X 11" scored at 3", 5 1/2", and 8", Coordinating cardstock for the front of the gift card holder to embellish as desired, Word Window punch and a Circle Punch, ribbon for the closure, and adhesive.

1. Fold your cardstock along the score lines accordion style.
2. On the back side of the cardstock, run adhesive along what will be the bottom and two sides of the pocket (between the 5 1/2" score and the 3" score). Leave the 5 1/2" score line free of adhesive.
3. Fold your gift card holder again on the scores to adhere the pocket together. Now open the card. You will need to use your Word Window punch to cut an opening for your gift card holder. I started at one end of the 5 1/2" score line, punched and then punched again right next to the first punch. Be sure to leave about a half inch on each end. Check for proper fit using your gift card.
4. Next, use the Circle Punch to make a half circle or smaller notch in the middle of your punched area. This will make removing the gift card a bit easier.
5. Embellish the front as desired and use ribbon to tie the card holder closed.

Double Slider Card

Happy Sunday! Hope you all had an enjoyable weekend. I just wanted to make a quick post of my first ever double slider card. This was a fun card to make but I still need some practice. My card isn't perfect, the second slider doesn't "hide" enough in the hidden position. I do like the style though and I think I'll be doing one of these for my stamp club tomorrow night. Sweet Sugar Nellies

Happy Thursday!

That means time to commit rubber-dultery! It's great fun using my stash of images. A little while back my friend, Jo, sent me a card folder filled with Sugar Nellie images, so today I took those out. They are super sweet!

This first card was colored with watercolor wonder crayons and an aquapainter. The cardstock Jo stamped these images on is fabulous for watercoloring. Everything blends so well. I'll have to ask her where she gets it and then I'll share that info with you. I used Brocade Blue and Pretty in Pink for my card colors. For embellishments, I used some brads and ribbon with paper piercing. Simple and sweet!

This next card was also colored with watercolor wonder crayons and an aquapainter. I chose this image to complete the Cute Card Thursday challenge, "anything cute with wings..." from last week. She's holding this cute little bird so I think this works. I used the same color combo as the card above. I also added brads and ribbon with paper piercing for the embellishments. To make this card a bit different, I made a scalloped edge with my corner rounder punch.

Acetate and Tissue

So, I debated all day whether or not to post this card. I wasn't sure what I really thought about it, still not actually. But it was my husband who convinced me to post it.

I made the image piece using the Acetate and Tissue technique on SCS. I was looking for something new to try. I like the technique, just not sure that I like the colors I used. Have any of you ever tried this technique? What color ink did you choose?

To complete this card card I used the direct to paper technique to create a background on the Soft Sky piece and then I paper pierced faux stitching along the edges. I'd love to hear your opinions about this acetate and tissue card. Thanks for looking, have a great night. Happy Stamping!! :)

Weekly Tutorial - Simple Backgrounds

Happy Monday!

Hope everyone had a good weekend. It was nice again here, actually got to go outside and do some yard work. The snow is almost all melted away. Hope the weather is nice where you live.

I just recently learned a new stamping technique called Direct To Paper. I'd never heard this phrase until visiting Desiree, on Stamp with Desiree. She made a beautiful card with this technique.

Direct to paper actually just means putting your ink pad right to the paper. This is probably the easiest technique for creating a background for your card. You can use either the edge of the pad or the corner or even the entire ink surface. Each way will create a different effect.

For the top right card, I used the very edge of my ink pad to create a random "line" effect as the background. I stamped Sahara Sand ink on Sahara Sand cardstock. I was going for a masculine card style, I never make masculine cards, but I have a couple birthday's coming up for which I'll need these cards.

For the bottom left card, I used the entire ink pad surface to create a weathered appearance. I stamped Night of Navy ink on to the Night of Navy cardstock. I don't have a lot of background stamps so this technique will come in handy!

A Tag and An Award

Good Morning!

I wanted to share a wonderful award, which I received from my friend Jo. This is just the sweetest friendship poem/award. Jo and I met through blogging, one day she stumbled across my blog and decided to email me, I am so grateful for that. We became fast friends and I cherish that friendship with her. I would like to share this friendship award with all of the friends I've made through blogging. I look forward to sharing our art and support and of course our conversations.

Finally Friday Challenge - CASED

Happy Friday!

Hope everyone has had a good week thus far. We've had some great weather here, all week long, and even got to play outside! No more snow! It's suppose to be a cooler weekend though, of course!

Today on Erin's blog, Scrap Stamp and Be Merry, she has her Finally Friday Challenge posted and it's to CASE a card you've seen on a blog. CASEing means to Copy And Share Everything. I saw a card last month on Beate's blog, Fresh and Fun, it was absolutely stunning, as always. So when I saw Erin's challenge today, I just knew that was the card to CASE. Beate's card can be seen HERE.

I chose to use the same color combination of Ruby Red, Chocolate Chip, and Soft Sky for the papers, but I added a Very Vanilla layer to stamp my image on to. The Ruby Red piece was stamped with the swirl/vine from Baroque Motifs and then the edges were sponged with Ruby Red and Pumpkin Pie ink.

Beate used a special technique for stamping her main image, but I did the Thumping Technique from SCS for mine. You just ink your image in one color and then tap different color(s) on randomly with the side of a brush tipped marker. Here I stamped with Wild Wasabi and then thumped/tapped with Ruby Red and Pumpkin Pie markers. It gives it a marbled look.

Next, I sponged the edges of the other layers of cardstock, the Chocolate Chip is sponged with Chocolate Chip and the Soft Sky with Soft Sky. I also sponged Soft Sky on the top of the image piece and Wild Wasabi on the bottom. I added white gel pen dots by hand around the image layers for a border. The final touch was a piece of Hodgepodge and some ribbon.

Besides the different stamping technique and additional paper color, the changes I made when making my card were; added butterflies to the image piece, left out the sentiment, and changed the ribbon colors. A Couple Tildas

Ok, so I know it's not Thursday, but I had to post a couple non Stampin' Up! projects for this week. I've got to get in my rubber-dultery!

This first card was made using a Tilda image I received from Jo or Annie. Sorry girls, I don't remember who, as I've put all my Magnolias together. If you like Tilda, check out both of these ladies' blogs! They always have super cute Tilda cards and ATCs posted.

The cardstock and paper are all Stampin' Up! colors; Bashful Blue, Pumpkin Pie, Summer Sun, and Summer Picnic DSP. I just love these "summery" colors and this image works perfectly with them. I colored the image with my Stampin' Write Markers. The grass was doodled with a black journal marker. I stamped the sentiment from Warm Words and used my oval punches. The final touch was to add Stickles to Tilda's wings.

This next card is my first ever ATC (artist trading card) that I made for the challenge on Tilda and Friends ATC challenge blog. The challenge was "Cooking it Up!" You needed to follow the recipe using a Magnolia image and 1 bow, 2 flowers, 3 colors, and 4 brads or gems.

I chose this image because of the flowers that Tilda is holding, I know there are more than 2 but it was all I had with flowers. Then I added 3 blue brads, and 1 bow with a rhinestone brad. The colors are Bashful Blue and Summer Picnic DSP. I colored Tilda with my markers again and added Stickles to her wings. Her toes are a touch green as she was standing in grass, but I had to cut it off to make it fit the ATC size. Oops! This image was also one I received from Jo or Annie.

Watercolor Wonder Crayons

Happy Thursday Stampers!

I have stamp club tonight and I need to have some fresh project ideas to share with my members. So, I decided to do some blog hopping to get the creative juices flowing. I was inspired to take out my watercolor wonder crayons, which I'll be honest, I haven't used in quite a while, but after a visit to Kerin's blog, I knew they were the perfect product to use for club tonight. She posted an absolutely gorgeous flower project using these crayons. Check out her blog, HERE. These really are fabulous crayons, if you don't own them, you should consider getting some.

This first card is basically a CASE of one I saw in the SCS gallery. So sorry, but I don't remember who the original artist is to give credit to. I used Brocade Blue and Night of Navy cardstock with watercolor paper. The circles were punched out of Brocade paper to create a faux embossing. I then adhered ribbon and a strip of sticky tape to the card and covered the tape with beads and microbeads for some texture. The whale was stamped with Jet Black Staz-On ink and then colored with the watercolor crayons and an aquapainter. It's a very simple card, but fun too.

This next card uses more Rich Regal colors. I chose So Saffron, Regal Rose, and Rose Red and then Very Vanilla for the neutral. I used Pun Fun and the Sweet Stars wheel for the Stampin' Up! Free Wheelin' promo. I do love this stamp set, it's too cute and very versatile. The image here was stamped with Timber Brown Staz-On ink and colored with the watercolor crayons and an aquapainter. I paper pierced the border and added some photo corners and a felt flower for finishing touches.

Weekly Challenge - Embossing

Happy Wednesday!

The challenge this week is embossing. Make a card or project using either dry embossing or heat embossing with EP or a combination of both. Sorry that I don't have a card posted, I promise to post later today. I've got a busy morning to get started and grocery shopping, oh so fun!!

Each of these cards was made using the new Summer Picnic DSP from the Stampin' Up!Occasions Mini Catalog. I have embossed the fruit on each card with clear EP.

For some fun, I also added Kool Aid drink mix (sugar free) to the clear EP before embossing to create a scratch and sniff effect on some of the fruit. If you want to try the scratch and sniff technique, just mix 1 1/2 parts EP to 1 part sugar free drink mix and emboss with your heat gun.

Shrink to Fit

While doing some blog hopping over the weekend, I saw a really cute card on my friend Jo's blog. It was a card she made for the challenge on Daring Cardmakers called "Shrink to Fit."

This challenge was posted on Friday and of course I only just got the chance to take part today. There's already a new challenge posted. But last week's challenge states...

"So this week I'd like you to think small - not small cards, but small spaces of embellishment on regular sized cards."

I don't typically make cards with this style, so this was a perfect challenge for me to try. I chose to use Sahara Sand as the card base. I then layered a 5cm X 6cm piece of Mellow Moss under a 4.5cm X 5.5cm of Very Vanilla. My images are from the Stampin' Up! set Baroque Motifs. I stamped the vine image in Mellow Moss and the flowers in Soft Sky. I stamped the sentiment in Sahara Sand. The two layers are adhered to the Sahara piece with foam tape. Thanks for looking. Weekly Tutorial - Baby Wipe Technique

Happy Monday!

Hope you all had a good weekend. The snow is finally starting to melt where we live, maybe that means Spring is actually here!

I've been meaning to share this technique for a while now and with the Stampin' Up! Free Wheelin' promo, this is a perfect time. This card was made using the baby wipe technique. This is a really fun and simple way to create a beautiful card in just a few minutes.

You will only need a few supplies; a baby wipe, a few different colored re-inkers, a stamp or wheel, and paper. For my card I chose re-inkers in colors of the rainbow, but you can use any color combo you want. Just be sure that you don't choose colors that will blend and turn brown or black. You won't be happy with that result!

First, fold your baby wipe in half and in half again, just to make it a little thicker. If you are working on a surface that you don't want to get ink on, I suggest putting a paper plate under the baby wipe. Next, starting with your darkest to lightest re-inkers, randomly place drops of ink on the baby wipe. I make a circular pattern and drop 6 to 8 drops of each color, allowing the colors to just barely touch. Once you have all your colors randomly dropped onto the baby wipe, you are ready to stamp. You have basically created a custom ink pad with the baby wipe.

For my card, I used the Doodle wheel as my main image instead of a single stamp. I rolled the wheel over the ink on my baby wipe, being sure that the entire wheel/stamp was inked up. Then stamp the paper. What you get is a multi-colored image.

To finish my card, I used some retired cranberry cardstock cut 6x3, some retired stitched cranberry ribbon, and a hemp twine tag. I also stamped a sentiment. Beate's Weekend Sketch Callenge #42

I'm back again. I've missed out on taking part in the weekend sketch challenges on Beate's blog, Fresh and Fun, for a couple weeks now. I had some time today, so I gave it a try. It's a great sketch as always, but I had to rotate my card as I wasn't happy with it going vertically.

I decided to keep with the theme of using chipboard and scrap DSP. I used more Afternoon Tea paper and a circle chipboard frame.

The card base is Close to Cocoa stamped with the Canvas BG. I then layered Wild Wasabi and Soft Sky with the coordinating DSP. I sponged the edges of the solid cardstock for added texture. Then I stamped the faux stitching around the edges on the DSP. The main image is from Bloomin' Beautiful. I colored it with re-inkers and an aquapainter. The chipboard has been lightly sponged with Cocoa ink and adhered to the image piece. The final touch was to add 2 styled silver flower brads.

Keepin' It Simple

Hi All! Happy Friday, Yay!

I was inspired by a card I saw on Lauren's blog, Groppi Girl Blogs. She makes fantastic cards, that are classically clean and strikingly beautiful. Lately, she's been making cards using chipboard. I have a pile of chipboard that I never think to use. So, today I decided to drag out my stash and make a card with NO stamping. I know, crazy huh!

This card was made using scrap pieces of the designer series paper, Afternoon Tea. I got this idea from Lauren as well. The card base is Chocolate Chip cardstock.

I lined the top and bottom edges of DSP with chocolate grosgrain ribbon. For the final touch, I sponged ink on the chipboard flower and attached it with a rhinestone brad. This is very different for me, I don't think I've ever made a card without some sort of stamping. Thanks for looking. Hope you have a fantastic Friday. Happy Stamping!! :)

Bella and Gina K

Happy Thursday!

Today is my day to play with non Stampin' Up! images. I have received so many great images from my blogging buddies, so I'm hoping to use some of them each week.

This first one is a Bella, not sure which one, but I know if I had a tub like that I'd be lounging in the bath all the time! Ahhh! I received this image from my friend Jo. This Bella is just so much fun, thanks Jo.


I used crystal effects, glitter, and dew drops to create my bubble bath. The colors for the cardstock are Bashful Blue, Soft Sky, and White. The ribbons are grosgrain Bashful and Celery.


This next card was made using my new Gina K stamp set, Just So Hippy. I love this giraffe, she's so cute. I chose to use this red, white, and black color combo because I wanted to use some new DSP and a piece of striped grosgrain ribbon which I received from a PIF blog candy. I don't typically use red, but I did here because of the heart shaped spots on the giraffe.

Weekly Challenge - Wheels and Backgrounds

Happy Wednesday Stampers!

It's challenge time! All month long, Stampin' Up! has a promotion for free Stampin' Wheels when you purchase select stamp sets. So, I thought this would be a perfect time to use my wheels.

The challenge this week is to use a wheel or background image on your card or project. Pretty easy, right! To enter for a chance to win a little something from me, participate in the challenge and post a link to your project in the comments on this post. You have until 9am next Tuesday to complete the challenge. The winner will be drawn at random. I'll then post the winning card on my blog that day.

I made this card using my new Pun Fun stamp set and Sweet Stars wheel, which are both part of this promotion. The colors are Groovy Guava, Basic Gray, Soft Sky, and White. The image was colored using re-inkers and a blender pen. The edges of the Sky and Gray layers have been sponged for added texture. I used Nestabilities, paper piercing, and the photo corners punch for accents and then embellished with a brad, felt flower, and a rain drop sticker. The sticker is on the center of the flower, kind of hard to see in this photo.

Something New Challenge Winner

Last week I started something new with my weekly challenges, anyone who participates will be entered into a random drawing for some goodies. The deadline to enter is the following Tuesday.

Kathy, a fellow SBS sister, was the only one who took the challenge last week and this is her card. Thanks Kathy! I think it's beautiful. I love the color combo and layout. That image is very pretty too. Contact me with your address and I'll get something out to you. :)

Making Waves - Papertake Weekly Challenge

My friend and fellow blogger, Jo, has a super cute card on her blog that she made using this week's challenge on Papertake Weekly. The challenge is "making waves." Use zig-zags or scallops or both on your project. How fun and easy is that! This is a challenge I can handle. :)

I made my card using my new set, Pun Fun. This set is so darn cute and very versatile too. For the waves part of this challenge, I used my Nestabilities scalloped rectangle. The colors are Black, Blue Bayou and DSP, and White. I used an aquapainter and re-inkers to color the hippo. I drew the grass free hand and brushed on some green with the aquapainter. I added double stitched grosgrain and hodgepodge for my embellishments.

Tart or Tangy

Are you tart and tangy? I know I am! I didn't think I needed to have the set, but then I started to see fabulous samples using it, so I knew it was a must have. It's great for making cute and simple cards. It's such a cheerful set.


Both of these samples use Soft Sky, Wild Wasabi and Real Red cardstock. I used some punches to make quick embellishments. The sentiment is from Pun Fun, it works great with this stamp set. For a little bling, I used stickles on the top of the strawberry and on the cherries.
